You never realize how bad of a writer you were until you go back and read the bull shit you wrote. I just finished reading my previous blogs and had to cover my face out of embarrassment...but that's how you get better. Shoot and miss. Or is it Swing and miss? Whichever it is you get my point. The only way to improve at any skill in life is to repeat it over and over. Only then can you find that sweet spot, where whatever you're doing becomes effortless. In the case of a writer its called find your voice.
I want to get better at writing and "find my voice." I've been reading some other peoples blogs and discovering that it is that simple. "If you want to become a better writer, just write".
The only problem I have been running into is, what the hell do I write about? They never tell you what to write about. I wish there was a list of what to write about (future blog idea) So guess what I decided to do? Yep. Write about writing! (I'm something like a genius). I did a little research about what writers go through to create, share and get better. This is what I found:
1) Writers are artist.
2) Artist are super duper critical of their work.
3) Their work in some form of fashion reflects who they are or what they have to say.
4) When the do create it usually takes sometime to share.
5) When they do get around to sharing "true" artist give two shits on how people view them as long as they respect their art.
6) Every artist transform (grows) overtime.
7) All great artist used repetition as a means to advance their art form.
Upon discovering that I shared some of these traits, I crowned myself a "true artist". I then made up my mind that I would create, create and create until I had one piece I could share with you. (hopefully weekly) I also decided that no matter how lame it would sound that I would start asking people how they expressed themselves; and encourage them to do more of it. (paying it forward) This, I believe is the only way true writers/ artist can emerge, learn and grow. Do what you love again and again and again... Until you find that sweet spot. It is the only way to realize how bad of a writer you once were and laugh at the shit you wrote.
